We are proud to tell about a strategic intervention for the mobility of the Abruzzo hinterland:
thetechnical-functional adaptation of the Paladini bridge on State Road 80 "del Gran Sasso d'Italia", the only direct connection between Teramo and L'Aquila.
The bridge, located along the only road axis connecting the mountain villages of the Abruzzo hinterland, has undergone a major infrastructural intervention, aimed at structural consolidation and replacement of the existing deck with a new mixed steel-concrete structure.
Paladini Bridge: a new structure with 12 15-meter MTR® A beams
The project, which started in June, involved the installation of 12 MTR® A beams, each 15 meters long, designed to meet the requirements of speed, safety and strength. These are self-supporting metal beams with disposable sheet metal sides, replacing traditional formwork for containing concrete castings.
As a result of this solution, the deck was built faster, saving on labor, construction time, and impact on the local road system.
MTR® A beams: a winning choice for efficiency and safety
MTR® A beams have proven to be an optimal choice for bridge construction and rehabilitation due to their technical characteristics:
- Self-supporting, ideal for mounting at height;
- Lightness, which facilitates transportation and handling on the construction site;
- Speed of execution, without the need for complex provisional works;
- Safety during installation, reducing operational risk;
- Elimination of formwork due to disposable sheet metal sides;
In this context, MTR® beams represent a technologically advanced alternative to the prestressed system. In fact, they offer the same advantages as prefabrication, but with greater flexibility in design due to sections with reduced height compared to the prestressed construction system.
MTR® System for the future of infrastructure
With the Paladini bridge, Metal.Ri confirms its role as a reference in the road infrastructure sector.
The use of MTR® metal beams made it possible to significantly speed up the execution phases, minimizing disruption to traffic. In a mountainous area where travel alternatives are limited, adherence to timelines was crucial.
The intervention demonstrated the effectiveness of MTR® System even in complex logistical contexts, representing the ideal solution for any engineering context.
